... EIJI ISHIDA no tag: His eyes were glassy -- not from inhaling some glaucoma 'medication' though, don't be so quick to jump to conclusions! Eiji was just feeling weary as he stared down at the small selection of green produce in the supermarket. Perhaps he would have done better to go to the Mall to pick up dinner as usual. But the mall was not on the route home, and his legs didn't feel like carrying him ten blocks the opposite way to pick up a pizza. What can I say? The boy had foreign taste.
Finally, a movement. A defined arm reached out and its fingers closed around a leafy head of cabbage. The lost boy stared at it for a few moments more, his thoughts became lost in how to cook the d**n thing. Okonominyaki was a popular treat that he enjoyed, and although easy to prepare, it was just beyond Eiji's capacity. The poor guy. He placed the cabbage down, more confused than ever, and picked up a dirt covered potato instead.
"..... Yeah okay." He mused to himself, placing three more into his basket. He gingerly brushed his paw clean on the back of his slacks before wandering over towards the vertical fridges. Pulling one of the glass door open with a loud, "POP," Eiji proceeded to stand in front of the refrigerator with his usual deadpan gaze.
The sign stuck on the door was written in cute small handwriting on a heart-shaped paper read, "please make your selection before opening the door~!"
Although all Eiji could see was a pink paper heart from the other side of the door which he held open. And what others would probably see was a guy with a heart for a head, slouched in front of a fridge that as quickly losing its temperature.
"...... Pickles... and Ice-cream..."

It wasn't like Kaela was prone to do much on her days off from work; either she did her school work dutifully or she ran errands for Kuru while she was working for the day. Her hair was pulled back and out of her face, grey eyes scanning the produce section; she was planning on making beef Shabu Shabu for dinner tonight, just something special and nice for Kuru to come home to. She smiled as she looked over the mushrooms, reaching out and picking up the largest one and examining with with a grin before putting it in her basket, going back to examine the others. It wasn't long before she moved on from the mushrooms to examine heads of Chinese cabbage, trying to decide which ones weren't as ripe as the others; she could only use the best to make dinner, of course. That's why she also picked out the best carrots and kelp as well.
It wasn't until she felt a drifting coldness against the backs of her legs did she snap to attention, blinking and looking around. Was it too cold out to be wearing a skirt? She pulled on the sleeves of her hoodie, thinking that had been enough to wear today, and glanced around behind her to the fridges, realizing ... that ... there was a guy just standing there staring into the fridge.
Now ... Kaela wasn't normally one to stare but ... she was quite sure you weren't supposed to just ... stand there ...
Finally, after like ... five minutes of watching him stand there, she quietly approached his side, her arms crossed behind her back with her carrying cart. She slowly, very slowly, leaned across him to stare into the fridge, actually vaguely wondering what was just so interesting in there to begin with.
"...Are you looking for something?" She asked and looked back up at the stranger with a smile; she could at least be helpful and make sure he didn't get in trouble with the employees here.

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome "nah, not really." He mumbled to the frozen baby octopus, stepping back from the fridge and letting the door slowly swing shut with dull,
THUD.
For those minutes that had passed, they had just been standing there sharing that peaceful moment of togetherness... before she ruined the moment by opening her mouth. Still, Eiji would have had to have been in a coma not to have noticed the presence of somebody else leaning into his personal space. But until that point, he hadn't acted as though he knew she was there. Eiji hadn't been eyeballing her at all. In other words, yeah, he noticed the pretty young thing zeroing in on him -- despite not batting a lash.
"Do you work here?" He asked her, taking one foot behind the other and facing his shoulder away from her.
She was a small girl with a distinctly non-descript Japanese face. He didn't find any offensive features on it, but he didn't exactly find anything attractive about her face either. He did notice her legs though, only for a very short moment, for fear of the young girl catching him glimpse at the part of her thighs the hem of her skirt hit.
The rat continued to gaze down at her with large gray eyes, maintaining that unreadable expression. It was hard to tell what he was thinking. It was hard to determine whether he was thinking anything at all before he inquired nonchalantly,
"What flavor ice-cream do you like most?"

THUD.
Went the fridge door as he stepped back and away, answering her question with a rather ... well, blunt answer. In fact, the bluntness of it had actually stunned her for those few moments it took to step away from the fridge and turn somewhat her way, watching her idly with dull, rather large, gray eyes. Even his voice was perfectly monotone as he spoke to ... well, down to her. She tended to be much smaller than most people anyway.
"Do you work here?"
That statement managed to snap her out of her trance with a shake of her head and a clearing of her throat. "Uh, no ... but uh ..." What was she doing there again?
Oh, right.
"I just didn't want you to get in trouble with the workers; they have that sign up and everything, and also it probably gets really cold after a wh-"
Another question.
"What flavor ice-cream do you like most?"
"Uuuh..." She was nearly stunned into silence again; this guy was just ... really ... really ... she actually couldn't describe it. Intimidating would probably be a good word for it. Not that he was being mean or anything; he was being very polite. But in general, his blunt and one tone voice and the way he just nonchalantly regarded her was a little scary to her.
"I-I like fudge ripple." She replied sheepishly, subconsciously tugging on a loose strand of hair as she looked to him with eyes akin to a deer in front of a speeding car. The hair tugging was a nervous habit. "I like mint chocolate chip second best ..."

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome It didn't come as a surprise to him that her answer was completely normal. Interesting, but still normal. And it didn't seem to have made an impact on him either way. "That's nice.... yeah." Eiji remarked before revealing cooly, "I like vanilla, and pickles."
The stabbing pain surging through his left temple, made him grit his teeth and stare intensely at her for a moment. Then he flipped his hair out of his eyes and smiled weakly.
"Are you nervous? Yeah? Don't be so nervous." His monotone varied tenderly, but only a little, before he tore his gaze away from her wide eyes. Without so little warning, the tall boy turns on his heel and simply strides away.... Well, he probably didn't mean to leave the girl hanging there. Eiji probably assumed she would just follow along after him like some star stricken fan. Why he was used to this rockstar treatment from others was a mystery, but his handsome face probably had something to do with it.
His back was to her now, as the distance grew between them with the three sad looking potatoes in his basket rolling to and fro. The faint supermarket music hummed in the background as the guy ambled towards the checkouts...

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome "W-wait! I don't understand!" She had cried out with an urgency that made Eiji glance over his shoulder. "... what is it?" "Why! I-I mean, why pickles and vanilla?" "......" His eyes met her's just before he raised a brow. And it would take some second guessing but this brain-dead fool was actually the master at using silence as a conversational weapon. "...Why not?"
Eiji's voice was light, smooth, deep. Her's seemed to carry that giddy quality that came attached with high-schoolers. A perkiness that could be perceived as annoying to some, but endearing to most. And the girl, in her loud effort to stop the enigmatic Eiji from slipping out of her life, had attracted the other shoppers attention as they tore their focus away from their purchases and looked up momentarily at the attractive pair. They were just two strangers who happened to cross paths at a supermarket, but it was quickly becoming a scene.
"Well," He cleared his throat, and stepped out of the line in order to regain back some privacy, "I can only afford this much today anyways, yeah." Shaking his basket once for emphasis before brushing the bangs out of his eyes to get a better look at her. "So, like.. I'm done here. I'm about to go home and make...." eyeballing his three potatoes, "...dinner."
He gestured back at the line, as though to ask her for permission to step back in and get back to his life.

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome Her voice was laced with pity but probably no intention to back it up. They were only strangers after all. "That ...'s all you're eating?" "Um... does it matter to you?" He responded doltishly, defending his sad three potatoes. "This is about the same rations you get when you, like, do marine corps training, y'know." His cool voice dragged along as the line moved in the que. He chuckled softly to himself before explaining more clearly, "Seriously though, I'm going through a dry spell, this is all I can afford."
The dint in her brow was easy to miss, although Eiji managed to make note of it and tilted his head tenderly.
"Sooo...... Um. Your mom asked you to buy those things for her? Yeah?" He gestured to her chest the lush contents of her basket. "I'm sure she's waiting on you to get home quick so she can prepare dinner for you guys. So... off you go."

She giggled a little at the marine corps. joke, and at least the way he smiled even slightly gave away that he was joking. She listened to him explain how it was all he could afford and her eyes lowered back to his sad little potatoes and she frowned ever so slightly, her brow furrowing further.
The mention of her mother made her wince, only for a split moment, but she quickly put up a smile and shook her head.
"A-actually, they're for my sister ... but ... uhm ..." She looked back down at his potatoes, then her basket, then his potatoes again.
Her brow furrowed not sadly, but determinedly, placing her hands on her hips and jutting her chin out high as she puffed up her cheeks.
"But she won't be home till later, and I'm making Shabu Shabu, which feed s a lot of people! So, i-if you want ... I could feed you ... if you want ..."
Was she serious? Did her face look serious? Hilariously so, but yes, she was serious.
Super serious.

God help me, she looks serious...
"Um.. whoa.." He sounded, running a defined hand through his gray hair and maybe breaking an invisible sweat before his fingers came to rest around the back of his neck. "That's nice of you but I think I could go to jail just for talking to you.. You seem a little young, y'know."
Scrunching the corner of his lip, he eyed around the corner to see if anyone was still watching, before returning his gaze back onto the young girl leaning close to her to she could hear every word he was whispering, "I'll let you feed me, yeah." Before straightening back up to his full height and placing his hands on his own waist, mimicking her authoritative stance. "Although how you're going to explain to your sister why you've brought home a college dropout is beyond me and aaaall you." He frowned shortly, but his lips quickly straightened out and he looked normal again, "....Good luck."
Placing his nearly empty basket on the floor next to the shelf, he stood by the girl's side and held out his hand, motioning to the checkouts.

She pursed her lips as he commented on her young looking appearance, pouting and crossing her arms over her chest before pursing her lips again. "I will have you know I am eighteen years old and perfectly capable of making these kinds of decisions." He was right about one thing though ... if he stayed long enough, she'd have to explain it to her sister exactly why he was there. She could always lie of course ... then again, knowing Kuru, she may even been too tired to even register the presence of another person. She'd pass out and wake up sometime in the morning to eat the leftovers of the dinner she made her.
At some point, lost in her thoughts, he placed his basket aside and motioned for her to go pay for her things. Kaela snapped to attention and smiled happily up at him, shuffling around in her pockets for her money as she got on line and, eventually, paid for the food she had managed to find. Beef, mushrooms, cabbage, and everything else she needed for the dish. Before long, everything was bagged, and Kaela was waiting on the other side of the line and looking to him to follow her.

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome
As Reala's line of sight came onto Eiji, she would see he had been right behind her, making an impulse purchase of...
a stick of Hi-chew candy -- pudding flavored.
"Try, yeah? It's really nice." He said casually upon reaching her, after popping one out of the wrapper, and into his mouth before holding the roll of candies out for her. Then, suddenly interrupting the pair of strangers was the sudden vibration in his pocket. Reaching into his slacks, he pulled out his phone and held it to his ear with one hand, "Eiji Ishida speaking."
Then, forcing the bar of individually wrapped candies into the girl's delicate hand with his other hand, his tone became more grave.
"Not now.... Can't it wait till later?" a pause followed as he listened to the faint murmer of an ecstatic voice on the other end. "Yeeeeah okay... I am on my way."
Running his hand through his prematurely gray locks, he sighed once, before peering back down at Reala, wondering how to ditch her. He didn't say anything though, while he continued to give her a sideways glance that showed something was calculating behind the eyes. His dull gray eyes which normally didn't have anything to note about them other than they made Eiji look stoned half the time.
"... I wanna get to know you." He finally said, after swallowing his tongue. "Don't freak out..." He spoke too cautiously, like he was going to ask her for her phone number, or out on a date, something along those intentions.
".... What's your name?"

She barely had much time to react from the shock; how did he get behind her so fast?! Before she knew it, he was giving her all the candies and turning to his phone and speaking quietly. She looked down at the pudding flavored candies in her hand ... what kind of pudding did they taste like, she wondered vaguely, idly unwrapping a candy and popping it into her mouth. Oh ... wow, he was right! They tasted delicious! She chewed happily, only until she realized that his voice had become very somber before hanging up the phone, then realizing he was studying her from the corner of his eye. She gnawed on her lip as she swallowed the rest of the candy, fiddling with the unwrapped foil as he opened his mouth to speak.
"I wanna get to know you ... don't freak out ..."
Well, thank goodness he said that then; she wouldn't have known how to take it otherwise sarcasm, but she grinned at that; she wasn't quite too sure what he was feeling ... which was weird for her, since she was normally so good at reading other people's emotions.
"What's your name?"
"Sumizome Kaela," She responded as she popped another candy into her mouth before offering them back to him, chewing it on her back teeth. "And yourself?"

... EIJI ISHIDA Sumizome "Sumizome .... Like as in ... Ink print." He locked onto Keala's grin, but didn't return it as she asked him for his name. "It's Ishi-- d**n."
Retrieving the phone from his pocket again, he answered without saying a word, silence.
Then,
".... How did you know I was at the supermarket? ... fine, see ya later." He ended the call and shifted his gaze towards her and walked over to the pile of newspapers on the floor beside the counter, scooping one up, rolling it up, and sticking it under his sleeve. "He wants the paper."
He hoped she wouldn't hold it against him for bailing out on her kind offer for a hot-pot dinner. Eiji would probably hold it against himself later -- or perhaps his stomach would. Instead he offered his hand for a hand shake, to dissolve any hard feelings between them.
But unknown to him.... His hand... That hand which was connected to the curse which now bound him to a GOD... was now within reach of that female. Mere inches, mere seconds of turning him into....
"Anyway, I gotta go. It was nice meeting you." He retracted his hand away from her before she could shake it and brushed passed her towards the electronic doors. But the tall boy with the mousey coloured hair stopped between them and turned back to her,
"Don't be so nice to everyone." He uttered steely towards her, then he smiled and said, "Only me, yeah?" He winked playfully, before waving his handsome hand to Keala, stepping off the foot plate, and causing the glass automatic doors to shut behind him.
